I taught and coached at Tri-County in the mid 1980s and moved back 15 years ago. One of the big reasons I came back to Remington Wolcott was to raise my kids here. This is a great place to raise a family.
Our school offers the value of a progressive education. We have excellent facilities and a strong staff. When the school corporation took a look at enrollment trends, we hired Purdue University to look down the road. It became very clear that not only the school but the whole community needed to change the direction and growth patterns of the area for our long-term vitality. The RWCDC was created to help facilitate that growth.
Today the school is the main show in town, but it wouldn't be without our community's involvement. I think we need to continue promoting the schools, the housing situation, beautification of both communities.
What started as a chance to enhance the schools grew into something larger for the health of the community. Now we all have to step forward to make new opportunities a reality. We're fortunate with the community support we have, for the school and the RWCDC. There is an agreement that things can grow and get better.
It doesn't seem like 15 years.
In addition to serving as the Board President for the Remington Wolcott Community Development Commission, Dr. Crimmins is the Superintendent of Tri-County School Corporation. On June 7, 2009, he will present diplomas to nearly 150 graduating seniors, including his youngest son, Brandon.
