I am a member of the First Christian Church of Remington. Remington is unique community in that it has a Christian, United Methodist, Apostolic Christian, Catholic, Baptist and a Community Church, all within half a mile of each other.  Yes, that is six churches and they are all strong despite the size of the town.

At our church, we make a point to go visit new visitors. We take bread to welcome people to the community. In our town, you're taught to give to others.  Take the flood a few years ago. So many people were completely devastated. It was more water than we'd ever seen. People helped out any way they could - clothing, food and money. There was no plan; everyone just stepped in and started doing.

I'm on a soup committee for church. Weekly containers of soup and bread are distributed to the elderly and families in need. My week to make soup was the week of the flood. After we got the flooding in our home under control, I made soup. I took extra to people too busy trying to get out from under the water. It's just what you do!

A lot of people needed funds to start over. It was amazing how not just Remington but people from all over contributed. The community just knows how to expand and help each other. That's just the way it is here. Not all communities are like that.

It comes from being a faith-based community. Sometimes when I at the school, you can see the dedication in some of the kids. You can tell from their work ethic and attitude.  It is just a nice place to live."

Barb Harper was born and raised in Remington. In addition to her job at FBi, she is one of 12 active members in Psi Iota Xi service sorority. One of their philanthropic projects is to make nearly 1,700 Chocolate Easter Eggs in approximately 12 hours each year. The profits from this project go back into the community many ways.
