Interview with Principal Mr. Ulrich and teacher Aimee Clark - by Wendy Schwab Executive Director RWCDC
Tri-County School Corporation "One of the Smallest Striving to be the Best"
C.A.I.T - Corporation Academic Improvement Team was started in February 2009. The school board annually requests administration to list 5 goals, 4 career oriented and 1 personal, the board supports those as part of their annual stategic plan. In active response to these collective goals, C.A.I.T. was formed to strengthen and build academics at Tri-County.
C.A.I.T. is supported by teachers K-12, School board, administration and parents. They took a close and realistic look at the strengths and weaknesses of the academic opportunity at Tri-County. Strengths include a cohesive and supportive staff and administration, "being the size of Tri-County we have manageable numbers of students and faculty to work with on a level to make sure each child gets individual attention needed to achieve the highest level of learning" says principal Mr. Ulrich. He adds, "Closing the gap of communication between educators at all levels will help keep students on the right track academically". The teachers take responsibility for the student until they graduate, a kindergarten teacher is proud of the accomplishments of a upper level student and likewise the high school teachers recognize the importance of the primary and secondary teaching foundation that is set before the students reach them.
How does this work? Teacher Aimee Clark explains that the teachers are in close communication with each other. We are establishing curriculum's that align with each grade levels expectations providing each student the abilities to succeed at the next level as they move from grade to grade. Mr. Ulrich adds that specific data is available and is used to steer and direct the schools academic process. For instance they can tell at what age and in what course students are falling behind and where learning is happening. This specific data is necessary to pinpoint areas that need to be strengthened so teachers and administration can developed ways to stimulate the learning curve.
"It is our belief that each child has the ability to learn, Tri-county's size provides benefits to give each student continuity of education for their success" - says Principal Mr. Ulrich.
C.A.I.T. is a program developed by Tri-County Teachers, administration, parents and school board members.
Our community is proud of Tri-County School Corporation their students and graduates.
